Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, including fiscal reform, the budget, and The Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
