She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial young performer is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to achieve. The fans have worked hard throughout the years to preserve her legacy. The tragic shooting death of Selena caused a reaction in the Latino Community that was comparable to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. A hugely popular Latino performer throughout North America, Selena's music has influenced many people across different cultures. Selena may have been hailed by some as the Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's off-stage family values and involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns are exemplary.
